We may have a new BMC firmware update that comes with a new UVS manager update. New BMC features are usually dependent on new UVS admin console features. This is because BMC utilizes functions packed in the UVS admin console firmware to parallelly configure Mars 400 nodes. That means you can not upgrade the BMC firmware without upgrading the UVS firmware.

If your Mars 400 has been deployed for production, upgrading BMC won't give you significant benefits. Because, most of the changes are improving the Ceph deployment or restore nodes.

If you do want to upgrade the new BMC firmware, please watch out the following conditions.

  1. Updating BMC firmware requires to reboot the BMC. Reboot the BMC will shut down all of the Arm microservers in the same Mars 400 appliance. You have to take care of other processes to prevent the storage service be stopped.
  2. You have to upgrade the UVS manager firmware that comes together with the BMC upgrade before you upgrade the BMC.

Here is the procedure for upgrade BMC firmware.
